By-productions presents series of processes and their leftovers: “Press,” by Barbara Walter; “Pinch,” by Stephanie James; “Push and Pull,” by Jude Lewis; and “Drag,” by Joanna Spitzner. The public is invited to participate in scheduled G-Shifts: October 20, October 27 and November 3 from 3-5pm.
All four artists are faculty and friends in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ School of Art. James is the director of the School of Art and Doris E. Klein Endowed Professor of Art. Lewis is an associate professor of sculpture, Spitzner is an associate professor of art, and Walter is a professor of jewelry and metalsmithing.
This series of metalwork documents a road trip I made from Syracuse to Las Vegas. The vast landscapes changing state by state were awe-inspiring yet gave me a feeling of isolation. The works are made from cast, formed, poured and found bronze, brass and copper; soldered, crimped, carved and forced together.
Poured molten metals that form female-like intimate forms that can be worn or displayed as small sculptures. The materials are pink bronze, ancient bronze and fine silver. For 6 of the pieces, bronze and silver have been poured into containers of water to solidify, and the seventh is a bronze-cast acorn.
This work is primarily formed and fabricated in copper. It is to be held and kissed as desired.
